Carmen Abelleira is a Cuban-born, self-taught artist based in Ojai, California, where she has been actively working for nearly four decades. Driven by both aesthetic and environmental considerations, her work primarily incorporates found, discarded, and thrifted materials. Bright colors, playfulness, humor, and a strong sense of storytelling beautifully permeate everything she creates.
Artist Statement:
"I have been a fan of Paul Reubens and the Pee-wee Herman universe from the very beginning. The humor, imagination, and visual aesthetic have been a lasting source of inspiration for me. I feel that playful spirit is deeply reflected not only in my artwork, but also in the way I curate my home and personal style."
