Jose Soria | My Existence is a Scandal

$300.00

Archival pigment print on matte paper, constructed frame
18" x 15"

Born in Fresno, California (2000), Jose Soria received his M.A. in Art from California State University, Fresno in 2024. He is an adjunct professor at Fresno City College and Reedley College, and cofounder of Paper Crane Gallery — a community space that hosted live drawing events and group exhibitions. A resident artist at Broadway Studios since 2020, Jose regularly exhibits his work during Fresno’s monthly ArtHop.

His practice explores the intersections of religious, sexual, and cultural identity. Drawing from his upbringing in a traditional Hispanic household and his experience as a closeted bisexual, Jose incorporates personal memories and religious imagery into life-size figurative paintings, assemblage, and photography. His work speaks to universal themes of nostalgia, trauma, love, and acceptance — serving as a vessel for those navigating identity and breaking cycles of generational pain.
