Born in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, Karina Vizcarra — known as Karikatura — is a multidisciplinary visual artist working across painting, sculpture, jewelry, and stop-motion animation. A graduate of the University of Guadalajara with a background in haute couture, her work is defined by dreamlike hybrid beings that merge human, animal, and fantastical elements. Through these symbolic figures, she explores dualities of instinct and reason, fragility and strength, and the emotional spaces in between.
Her attention to detail and color reflect her couture training, while her creations evoke a poetic world where beauty meets the strange. Karikatura has exhibited in Guadalajara, New York, Albuquerque, and Los Angeles, including at international events such as the L.A. Art Show. She currently lives and works in Guadalajara, continuing to expand her visual language of embodied emotions and fantastical narratives.
