Normandie Syken is an illustrator and printmaker from Queens, New York. After studying illustration at the School of Visual Arts, she went on to self-publish two picture books, Little Red Witch and Puss in Boots. Her distinctive work can be found in prestigious collections worldwide, including the Beinecke Library and the British Library, and she has been commissioned to create large-scale murals for numerous cafes and restaurants.
Artist Statement:
"Growing up, I was deeply drawn to art, punk culture, and the classic Tim Burton aesthetic. When I first saw Pee-wee’s Big Adventure, the humor flew over my head a bit, but now it’s a staple that I watch all the time. I’ve even introduced it to my family—who usually don't share my love for the weird and unconventional—and they genuinely enjoy it, too.
Now, as an artist who tables at a lot of conventions, anything I feature with Pee-wee is an instant conversation starter and always resonates with people."
